Port San Antonio

This study of rail access involves the determination as to how best to incorporate the Union Pacific Rail Yard next to San Antonio’s Kelly AFB in order to open up the industrial, employment center and mixed use development opportunities for Port San Antonio. Kelly AFB has been converted under the federal BRAC process into an employment center and future mixed use town center. This study provided an analysis of prospective commuter rail service to the Port San Antonio’s Kelly AFB redevelopment zone; and how to incorporate freight service without conflicts.

Undertaken by Gateway Planning, as the lead, and supported by Kimley-Horn the study provided four different solutions as to how to traverse the adjacent UP Rail Yard in order to connect future commuter rail and vehicular traffic from one side of the rail yard to the other into the future town center.
