Representatives from Gateway Planning — the consulting firm contracted by nonprofit 64/6 Downtown to create a plan for development downtown — shared specifics with the public about their ideas for revamping transportation, housing and infrastructure during a presentation Thursday evening at the Friedman Mincer Building.
The plan is set to be complete in spring 2017, said Scott Polikov, president of Dallas-based Gateway Planning. The plan is part of Propelling Downtown Forward, a privately funded initiative built upon the Future Fort Smith comprehensive plan.
“You have a trolley system that’s mainly for tourism. What if we expand that trolley system? What if it becomes a core part of the transit system?” Polikov said to the crowd who came to the event.
